Can you imagine a world without truck drivers? Within days, stores would run out of food, hospitals would run out of medical supplies, ATMs would run out of cash, and the economy would begin to crumble. Many of us don’t often think about just how essential a truck driver’s work is to our daily lives.

National Truck Driver Appreciation Week, celebrated this year from September 8-14, is an annual week-long event that formally recognizes the 3.5 million professional truck drivers in the United States.  According to the American Trucking Association, “more than 80% of U.S. communities rely exclusively on truck drivers to deliver their goods and commodities – allowing the nation’s rural communities access to modern comforts” (ATA). These dedicated professionals will often drive overnight, on holidays and weekends, and through poor weather conditions to ensure the goods people consume every day are being delivered safely and on-time.

To show appreciation for our valued carrier partners and all professional truck drivers last week, LoadDelivered visited local truck stops throughout the Chicagoland area, sent out gifts, and ran a “Driver of the Day” social media campaign.

Truck Stop Visits

On Wednesday and Thursday of last week, members of the LoadDelivered team traveled to truck stops in the Chicagoland area, where they met with truck drivers, handed out water bottles and gift cards, and simply thanked them for the vital role they play in the supply chain.

"It was great to get a chance to meet with the people who are the 'driving force' behind the entire supply chain," said LoadDelivered team member Alexandra Morrison. "We met with some awesome drivers, shared some good laughs, and heard about the ups and downs of life behind the big wheel—like problematic empty miles, the flaws of HOS requirements, and the value of a good podcast."

Driver of the Day

In addition to visiting truck stops, we honored a few standout drivers on LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram. The drivers below consistently go above and beyond for our customers and we are grateful for their service.
